Kevin Ryan and Philip Makin

A few disparate topics to cover today, lovely people (Arthur Askey? – who knows and to be honest who cares!). I’ll crack straight into it.

*******************

I wasn’t laughing at the time but it can be funny (ha bloody ha) just how our eyes are opened to potentially profitable angles in this game. Let me explain.

In the 3.00pm at Southwell on Wednesday I backed two horses that I felt represented a bit of value. They were All Right Now and Piceno.

To say I was disgruntled to see them (comfortably) beaten into 2nd and 3rd place behind Everymanforhimself, would be putting it mildly but it did make me take a second look at the trainer/jockey combo of Kevin Ryan and Philip Makin. I was aware that Philip had become stable jockey at Hambleton but I’m ashamed to admit I had not been paying much attention as to how they had been getting on together.

Well, the 25/1 victory of Everymanforhimself forced me to get out the microscope and pore over the figures.

I have to say they are pretty impressive.

They’re not far short of breaking even on all rides but I’ve spotted an area where they really seem to clean up.  If we look at all Ryan/Makin charges in All Weather handicaps we  come up with the following figures:

Rides: 74

Wins: 25

Win Strike rate: 33.78%

P/L:  £77.26 to a £1 stake

I like those figures and even removing the win of Everymanforhimself on Wednesday a very decent profit would have been returned with an excellent strike rate. It’s even more interesting to note that 21 of the wins have come this year alone  from only 52 rides at an even better strike rate of 40%.

I think there could be some decent profits to be made from these two over the winter. Advice – Look very closely at Ryan/Makin rides in All Weather Handicaps!

Paddy Power are offering a very decent betting special in honour of Cheltenham’s Open meeting.

If you’re selection comes 2nd to the SP favourite in any of Cheltenham’s races over the next three days – they will give you your money back. The offer applies to win bets and the win part of each way bets. Very generous indeed and I will be taking it into account when placing any bets on non favourites there this weekend.

Finally, on to my most exciting news of the day.

Earlier this year I started a tipping service based on early morning value prices which I named The Morning Value Service. After 3 months of operation the service is ticking over nicely and showing a decent profit.

The reason I mention it is that I am aware there were a lot of people who wanted to join but were unable to due to being at work when the selections were mailed out (between 10.30 and 11.30am each morning).

Over the last few weeks I have been trialling my value selections on the evening racing with the selections going out just before the first race of the evening. They have proved very profitable (as I knew they would be – I’ve been personally backing them for years)

As an exclusive offer to readers of the blog I will be running a test/trial of these Evening Value selections over the next month.  It’s completely free for anybody who’s interested and it’s worth remembering that the last time I ran a free trial, we made more than 100 points profit in 35 days!

At the end of the trial I will be launching a (very) affordable service that will be far more accessible to people who have to work during the day.

If you would like to be part of the trial, please contact me urgently on Kieran@makeyourbettingpay.co.uk.  I will have to limit the number of participants to protect the prices so I’m afraid it will be a case of first come – first served.

That’s all for now folks but I will be back some time between now and racing tomorrow with John Mac’s full analysis of the Paddy Power Gold Cup

Have a great weekend whatever you are backing

Kieran

PS There are some very strong vibes this morning for Asifa in the 12.50 at Lingfield
