Betting Articles

UFC on ESPN 2, 30th March 2019, Philadelphia, USA

A diabolical card here to be honest with only a couple of half interesting fights (though the main event is potentially a fight of the year candidate) and some extremely lacklustre support.

Even worse, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of value to be had so I'm not going to be getting heavily involved. In fact there is only one bet that is jumping out at me.

Paul Craig V Kennedy Nzechukwu

Paul Craig has had kind of a rough deal in the UFC in my view and he deserved a bit more of a gimme than this. 4 of his 5 UFC opponents have been heavily touted undefeated prospects and he's facing another one here in the 6-0 Nzechukwu.

That being said, Craig has gone 2-3 in those 5 fights. In the two he's won, he's shown a decent ground game and the ground is an area where we have seen little of Nzechukwu. I'm not massively enamored with the quality of most of the fighters to emerge from Dana White's Tuesday Contender Series and, while Nzechukwu has an impressive looking 6-0 record, I don't recognise any of the names of the people he has beaten, none of them have a wikipedia page and they have a combined record of 26-31!

Hmmm, Nzechukwu's career so far looks suspiciously like a can crushing exercise and Craig, while not the greatest fighter in the division, is no can.

That being the case, the 2/1 available on Craig with Victor Chandler looks a little too big to me.

Advice: 1 point win Paul Craig @ 2/1 BetVC

That's the only bet for me because the prices are too tight on everything else but, for what it's worth, here's another couple I'm interested in:

Ray Borg v Casey Kenney - As long as Borg bounces back OK from the 18 month lay off, he should make very easy work of this one. I would have been betting on this one at current prices were it not for the very slight concern I have about ring rust.

Edson Barboza v Justin Gaethe - This is likely to be a brutal stand up war and either man could win. I'm favouring Barboza just slightly as the more technical striker. Whatever happens, I'm expecting a real barn burner because neither man knows how to have a boring fight!

That's it from me today, Have a great weekend and be lucky.

Summary:

1 point win Paul Craig @ 2/1 BetVC
