UFC Fight Night Blachowicz v Santos, Prague, 23rd February

As usually happens when the UFC comes to Europe, we have a bit of a nothing card. The headline fights at these events are always the kind that would be on the prelims anywhere else! Ah well, we have to work with what is presented to us and I think I've spotted a couple of reasonable wagers for us to have a tilt at.

John Dodson v Petr Yan

An interesting match up here between the surging Petr Yan and the seemingly fading John Dodson. Three years ago, Dodson would have been long odds on here…

Bellator 215 & 216 / UFC on ESPN, Phoenix, Arizona 15th, 16th, 17th Feb

A crammed weekend of action with two Bellator events followed by a big fight night in Phoenix from the UFC. With 34 fights across the 3 events, I've been very busy these last couple of days getting my head around where my money should be going. Here's what I decided.

Matt Mitrione v Sergei Kharitonov

A heavyweight match up for the main event of Bellator 215 and to be honest, it's the only half way interesting fight on the entire card.

The bookies make this a pick-em fight with both men pr…

UFC 234, 10th February 2019 - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA

Considering this is the first Pay per View Event of the year, I have to say I'm pretty underwhelmed by this card. Not by the top two fights, which are top draw, but by the lack of depth. Beyond those first two, the quality of the match ups drops off very fast. It's also been a lot more difficult to find any value this week - and in order to find any we are having to go for a real longshot. Be warned and be cautious - one of these is a very speculative bet indeed.

Lando Vannata v Marcos Rosa …

UFC Fight Night 144, 3rd February 2019 - Fortaleza, brazil

A decent card from Brazil and there are 3 fights I want to cover in this post. There is plenty of value available if you're prepared to look beyond the obvious.

Anthony Hernandez v Markus Perez

Markus Perez

I'm not really sure why Anthony Hernandez is quite such a favourite here.

Markus Perez may not be a world beater but I think he's a very tough first UFC outing for Anthony Hernandez, particularly when Perez in his own back yard with a partisan Brazilian crowd behind him (and Brazilian judges to …

Trainers for October 2018

Today marks the first appearance of a regular new feature on the site - Monthly Trainers to Follow

For October 2018, I've looked at National Hunt trainers who have knocked it out of the park in October over last three years. Trainers tend to be creatures of habit and  hopefully profitable Octobers will be a habit for these ones and they'll throw a few quid into the kitty over the coming month!

Each of our trainers has made a profit to SP across all their runners and additionally have made a profit…

Here come the Girls

Nick nailed 3 decent priced winners on 2000 Guineas day yesterday. Let's see what he can do with the fillies classic today: The fillies take centre stage on Sunday in the 1000 Guineas and the Group 3 Dahlia Stakes but first a look back at how Saturday’s selections performed.  In the opener at Newmarket, Bold Sniper ran a good race to finish third, whilst Farraaj never really featured but finished a respectable 5th.  Bold Sniper was well worth a crack at this trip but I imagine he will be doing h…

The flat season is well and truly upon us now and this weekend sees the first of the Classics with the QIPCO 2000 and 1000 Guineas.

We also have decent cards from Goodwood and Thirsk on Saturday.  As usual I will be sharing my weekend thoughts and selections with you.

I'm super chuffed that  I posted the early season trainer angles on Monday!

I couldn't have chosen a better day to point out the merits of the 'Spring Training Masters' as their performance since has shown: Roger Charlton: From 2 runners -  a winner at 20/1 and a 3rd at 15/2 Ralph Beckett: No runners as yet. Alan King:  1 runner -  3rd at 16/1 I love it when a plan comes together!

On to today: The Gamblers Fallacy

Here's a scenario:

You've just watched me flip …

Back to Earth with a Bump...

Nick hardman's back to take a look back over the Scottish national weekend:

Ayr

Following the highs of Aintree we had the inevitable lows and I can’t help thinking it was a weekend of missed opportunities.  Astonishing was well beaten in the John Porter Stakes, finishing 4th and beaten by 3 lengths in all.  Valdez jumped badly right in the Novice Chase at Ayr, but he would not have beaten Eduard in any case who was just too good.  At least William Hill refunded my stake.  In the Fred Darling, J Wonde…

Ayr and Newbury Thoughts

Fresh from a triumphant Aintree Festival, Nick Hardman is back with a comprehensive look at Saturday's big cards at Ayr (including the Scottish National) and Newbury on the flat. Take it away, Nick: First up a big thank you to all who commented on the Aintree blog and it was truly fantastic to know a few of you cashed in, especially on the Saturday.  Back to reality and last weekend may well turn out to be an impossible act to follow!  As I have said all along I do not see myself as a tipster, b…
